Wetlands of the East Coast

Moments in time along the east coast of India.

I started this series to bring attention to the rapid degradation of Chennai's wetland ecosystems. Along my journey, I found myself trekking into unmotorable parcels of land, walking into swampy waters, chasing migratory birds and discovering quiet, hidden treasures that lie right alongside the urban maze. These treasures are struggling to coexist today. They are crumbling under encroaching construction projects, landfills and pollution. Despite this damage, the Pallikaranai marshland still supports a wider bird population (local and migratory) than many protected nature reserves of the region. Sadly, few citizens notice and behold this beauty... it is visited mostly by naturalists, birders and photographers.
