My creative journey began 2 decades ago, with architecture. I worked on projects across the entire spectrum of the field - from building mud houses in rural belts of Maharashtra to hyper luxury apartments in south Mumbai. From designing and building lamps to neighborhood planning. These years allowed me to travel, interact and work with a wide cross section of my country’s population. Through these lived experiences, through journeys taken in the pages of books, and the spoken stories of my community, I have sought to slowly expand my capacity for empathy across divisions of race, gender, class, caste, nationality and species, while nurturing a deep gratitude for the world I inhabit.

Powered by the material and spatial knowledge that I gained on the field as an architect, I now use my art studio as the whiteboard on which to pursue these thought experiments. My art practice, therefore, is not static, but evolutionary; shifting as I shift. Each inquiry manifests as a series of works, with material and medium chosen intuitively in response to the question at hand. Ink, graphite, oil paint, found and organic materials, fabric, metal and wood enter the studio as needed. I move fluidly between realistic painting, loose drawing, stitching, printing, writing (in poetry and prose); allowing form to emerge from concept rather than imposing it.

At the core of my practice lies an ongoing attempt to reconcile two seemingly irreconcilable halves of my lived experience: an abusive childhood and a deeply grateful and introspective adulthood. The tension between these temporal selves, between rupture and integration, has been my most persistent inquiry. One half of my practice draws from my personal experiences with abuse and gender discrimination within my childhood home while also examining the larger patterns of unequal suffering across our society. The other half of my practice is rooted in my present. These works suspend the viewer in the fleeting now, to enjoy the beauty in the mundane- the change of seasons, the movement of sunlight through the day and the motion of life coursing through my city, embracing all facets of the human experience, both pain and joy.
